Auscultation and diagnosis

Apparently, the plant presented by the surfer is doing wonderfully. On the other hand, its leaves have small round holes. These cells are caused by soil insects called "otiorhynques". This type of insect usually comes out at night. It feeds on leaves by cutting them into regular rounds. During the day, this insect returns to the ground. Although the trace of the insect on the plant is sometimes invisible, it is a very characteristic symptom of rhododendrons.

Some recommendations

In order to get rid of otiorhyncs, the most radical solution is to disturb them during the day. To do this, dig the soil in broad daylight and turn it over to bring the larvae to the surface. These will no longer have the opportunity to develop and will no longer ravage the leaves of your rhododendron. Besides this possibility, you can spray an insecticide, preferably in the evening. You then have the choice between natural pyrethrum or one of its synthetic equivalents. It is enough that the insect crosses the layer covered with insecticide for you to get rid of it permanently. Thanks to these tips, the leaves of your rhododendrons will be safe from otiorhynques! You too, ask your questions at The Plant Clinic!
